Van Gerwin Bantam LL win St. Mary's Tourney
The Van Gerwin Bantam LL team went undefeated this weekend with a solid effort from the entire team. Opponents of Aylmer, St. Thomas and Embro were all new to these Meteors.

First up was Saturday against Aylmer. The Aylmer team scored 2X in the first period with an early lead but two goals in 2nd period by Jeromy VandeWalle (helpers McCarthy and Harmer) and Noah Mann (helpers Ruby and Meinen) tied things up. 3rd period had the Aylmer team pull ahead again by two but strong effort by Jarret VanBakel highlighted by a beauty late game tying backhand locked this game to a 4-4 draw.  Assists to Heuettlin, Yost, Ruby and Crowley.

Second game saw the team up against the Stars of St Thomas. This time our Meteors came out with fire trailing off the skates and smoke off the end of their sticks as the puck found the back of the net for five goals in the first period against the Stars single marker. Jarret VanBakel unassisted and James McCarthy had two with Andreas Harmer assisting on both with Logan Nugent helping on the second. Harmer banged in two more goals to cap off a super 4 point game. Final score 7-1.

Game three was Sunday afternoon against tourney leading and undefeated Embro Edge. This game proved to be much tighter than earlier games with each team trading single markers in the first and third periods. Goals by Andreas Harmer from James McCarthy, and Brock Boville from Sam Huettlin. Meteors almost won the game but hard charging Embro scored a rocket top corner with 10 seconds to go to force the draw which meant both teams  were destined to meet again in the finals to break this tie to see who would be the champion of the weekend.

Final game was another close tilt! Both Hayden Beuermann and Embro goalies were great with no goals allowed  until into the third period when Embro broke the scoreless tie. The two Logans got together with Nugent tying the score with additional helper to Harmer. The Edge edged ahead late in the third but our Meteors never game up with Sam Huettlin banging in the tying goal from tourney superhero Captain Harmer to force this one to OT. Mitchell found a way to win the game halfway through the 3 on 3 overtime with Ethan Meinin scoring the thriller from Noah Mann.

Great effort was made by the entire team to earn these medals. Busy week ahead with league games Monday and Tuesday against Central Perth and Blyth-Brussels. Let's keep rolling boys!
