Friday night Bantam LL action!
The VanGerwin Bantam LL recently played their first match-up of the season against the South Bruce Blades on Friday night. First Period began with an exceptional show of stick-handling and patience from James McCarthy as he faked out the defender and placed a perfect top shelf stick side goal unassisted to get the Meteors on the score sheet for the lone goal of the period. Goalie Beuermann was keen to show his stick handling skills as well with some nifty aggressive play in and out of his crease.
The second period had hard working Ethan Meinen fend off a hook to score the second goal assisted from Logan Ruby and Jeromy Vandewalle. Next Mitchell goal was scored by Andreas Harmer from a beauty set up pass from Logan Nugent. As the period went on our Meteors showed dominance over their opponent and the Blades began to wear down chasing all the speed the Meteor's had to give them.
After the flood both teams came out in the third period with some new found energy which also showed some chippy play. A total of 7 penalties came in the final 15 minutes with the opponents defense having all they could handle against the Meteor offence led by Meinen's 2 goals with another goal unassisted from Noah Mann vs the visitors single marker. Three assists on the night for Vandewalle and some good defense from Liam Brodhagen, Ethan Dearing, Jake Crowley and the rest of the back end rounded out a total team effort that earned these Meteors the 2 points in this 6-1 victory. Next up is a rematch Monday night in Mildmay.
