Great game to end the season!
Parents win over the Peewee LL’s to end their season

Saturday night was the last game for the Mitchell Legion Peewee LL team as they had their hardest game of the year by taking on a group of wily veterans called their parents.

From the start of the game it was evident from puck drop that the parents came to play.  Snapping tape to tape passes, showing off the fithy mitts they hope to pass down to their boys, shooting top cheese, five hole, bar down on the goalie.  The game had some great highlights led by the passing of Coach Woody, Coach Beav, Coach Hammy and Coach Crowley making the boys look like the Washington Generals and the parents looking like the Harlem Globetrotters.  Curtis Vessie streaking down the ice, winking to the wife and sniping the puck past poor Jeromy Vandewalle (who did a fantastic job in goal for the LL’s).  Steve Ryan, Jeremy Huygen and Warren Scherbarth connected more than once with give and go precision.  Craig Harris who made some big saves in the pipes when called upon, except for the one that went off his skate and when in.  Co-players of the game Darren Bilyea and Dave Vandevalle who led the team to victory with their never die attitude and energy to led the parents to victory to keep their undeafted record intact.  Even though there was some suspect timekeeping, the parents pulled out the victory over the boys 15-13.

It was a great game and a chance for the boys to see that their parents did play hockey and that their stories weren’t all BS and fairy tales.  I’m sure that some of the parents are heavily medicated with Advil, Tylenol or Aleeve but it was worth it and would do again in a heartbeat.

All the best to the graduating player who are moving up to Bantam from Peewee – Ethan Dearing, Nolan Vessie, Liam Brodhagen, Jeromy Vandewalle, Jake Crowley, Jaxen Hartwig, and Zach Huygen.

Big thanks to all the coaches (Coach Brooks, Woddy, Beav, Hammy and Crowley) for volunteering their time and efforts to help the boys improve their skills and to make them a better player at the end of the season then they were at the start.
