Mitchell Legion Peewee LL Playoff Report
Peewee’s have their back against the wall after tough start to the playoffs

The Mitchell Legion Peewee LL’s started the round robin playoffs with a trip to Harriston to take on the Minto Mad Dogs.  They boys put up a great team effort but started the playoff run with a 4-2 to the Mad Dogs.

Next up was the top ranked Goderich Sailors (Scotiabank) squad.  Goderich would score in the first minute of the game to put them up 1-0 but the team would settle down after that kept the game to just 1-0 after the first.

In the second, Jaxen Hartwig would open the scoring for the home side to tie the game up at 1-1.  Assists on the Hartwig goal would go to Jeromy Vandewalle.  It wouldn’t stay tied for long as Goderich would come right back just 25 seconds later to go ahead 2-1.  Colby Ryan would find the back to the net with a beautifully placed wrist shot from the point to tie it up again at 2-2.  Assists went to Calum Harris and Wade Campbell.  Goderich was relentless by coming back to take the lead back shortly after to make it 3-2.  Ryan Hubbard would bang in a goal in close to tie the game with the assists going to Payton Wood and Ryan.

From there, Goderich would score four unanswered goals to defeat the Peewee’s 7-3.

A couple nights later, the boys travel to Goderich to take on the second Goderich Sailors (Kinsmen) team.

In what was called by many in attendance, the best game the team played all year saw the two teams trade goals in the first period.  Mitchell’s goal came from Wade Campbell, with the assists coming from Jaxen Hartwig and Ryan Hubbard.

The two teams would trade exciting end to end rushes, topped off with great saves by Ethan Dearing.

Eventually the two teams would go into overtime with the local squad unable to come out on top.  Losing by the score of 2-1

On Wednesday, the Peewee LL’s travelled to Blyth to take on the Blyth/Brussels Crusaders.

In the first, the Crusaders opened the scoring three minutes into the opening frame.  A few minutes later, Ryan Hubbard would tie the game with a blast with the assist going to Payton Wood.

The Crusaders would add three more goals before Wade Campbell could respond with Hubbard and Bradley Dearing getting the helpers.

Despite a great team effort, the team would lose to the Crusaders 4-2.

Next up is a busy weekend of hockey for the team with a game with the Minto Mad Dogs on Saturday then a double-header of hockey with the two Goderich teams on Sunday with the team playing the Sailors-Scotiabank bank in Goderich in the morning and the Sailors-Kinsmen team later in the afternoon.  The team finishes up round robin play with a visit from the Blyth/Brussels Crusaders on Tuesday
