Peewee’s
down the Minto Mad Dog’s 5-3 in Round Robin Playoff Action
In the first period, it was the Mitchell Legion Peewee LL’s who stuck first with Jeromy Vandewalle banging in a rebound off a Colby Ryan shot. Shortly after that, Zack Bilyea put the puck past the Minto goalie to put the locals up 2-0 with the assists going to Jake Crowley and Zach Huygen. In the last minute of the period, Captain Crowley channeled this inner Bobby Orr with a beautiful end-to-end rush on a unassisted goal to put Mitchell up 3-0.
In the second, Minto would score on the powerplay to close the gap to 3-1. A couple minutes later, Ryan showed his own dirty dangles by weaving through the Minto defence to pot a beauty of a goal to make it 4-1. Calum Harris had the helper on the Ryan goal. Minto would inch closer with a goal with a shot from the point to make it 4-2.
In the third, Minto would score in the first minute to make it 4-3. Ethan Dearing would hold the fort for the team by turning away shot after shot to keep the team in the game. Vandewalle would put the LL’s ahead for good by scoring on the empty net with 0.01 seconds left on the clock.
A great start to a busy weekend for the Mitchell Legion Peewee’s with a double header against Goderich tomorrow (Sunday) with an early 9:30 am start in Goderich against the Scotiabank Sailors then later in the day at 6pm against the Kinsmen Sailors in Mitchell.
