Atom AE End OMHA Run At Semi-Finals
The Thompsons AE Meteors continued their OMHA efforts on Saturday morning in Ilderton in a must win situation.   The Meteors opened up the game with a strong play in the first with heavy offensive pressure in the Ilderton zone.  Late in the first Noah Mann would bang in a goal mouth scramble to open the scoring on a hard working effort.  Brayden Glauser earned the assist on the goal as he initiated the pressure with a strong wrist shot in close.

The Ilderton offence would come alive in the second scoring the next three goals in the second period, despite the Meteors working hard and getting chances.  Mitchell`s offence was held at bay by a strong performance by the Ilderton goalie.  Ilderton  added a goal early in the third to make the score 4 to 1.  Demonstrating the hard work and determination they have shown all season, the Meteors battled back.  Ethan Meinen responded with a shot high glove side from the slot to make it 4-2, Kyle Mills would draw the assist on the goal.  Mitchell controlled much of the play in the third but similar to Friday nights game, couldn’t capitalize on their chances.  With the empty net and, extra attacker on the ice James McCarthy scored assisted by Caleb Templeman and Logan Ruby to bring them within one goal of the comeback.  The Meteors continued to apply pressure with the extra attacker however just couldn’t get the tying goal, then off a blocked shot Ilderton sealed the victory with an empty net goal with 5 seconds remaining.  This ended a very close and well matched series for the boys.   Throughout the OMHA playdowns this team has come to play every night and work hard to compete.  As a result, the team has been playing their best hockey of the year.  The boys return to action Sunday with an important WOAA playoff game against rival BCH Ice Dogs.
