Thompsons Atom AE Meteors Advance to WOAA Finals
Saturday night the Meteors hosted their rivals from Listowel in a one game tiebreaker to see who would advance to the WOAA finals.  Both teams finished round-robin play with 5 wins and 1 loss to sit on top of the standings, having only lost to one another.  Throughout the year the two teams have battled hard and as a result played some very competitive games.   Both teams came to play in the tie breaker.

The first period started out  fast paced with both teams exchanging scoring opportunities.  Both goalies stood tall and the first period ended in a scoreless tie.   Early in the second period, Evan O’Rourke made an impressive effort to keep the puck in at the blueline, fighting off two Listowel forwards.  The effort was rewarded as Mitchell’s Brayden Glauser opened the scoring with assists going to Caleb Templeman and Kyle Mills as they battled to keep the puck deep in the Listowel zone.   Mitchell would continue strong play in the second and again were rewarded as defenseman Lucas Roobroeck coasted on a beautiful rush  and buried a strong wrist shot past the Cyclones goalie.  Mills earned the assist on the play.  As the game continued, Listowel began getting more chances and applying pressure on the Mitchell defense.  With just over 3 minutes gone in the third, Noah Mann added some insurance with a nice tip off a Mills wrist shot, this put the locals up 3 to 0.   Listowel continued its press but strong defence and goaltending came through.  The Cyclones broke Brennen Vanderkuylen's shutout bid with just over 4 minutes left in the third.   With the season on the line, Listowel pulled their goalie late in the third, when Mills picked off an opposing pass and made no mistake burying an empty netter to seal the victory and give him a four point night.  The buzzer sounded and the Meteors came out on top with a 4 to 1 win.  The boys will now face AEMHA Ice Dogs in a series for the WOAA Championship.
