Atom AE's Drop Hard Fought Battle
The Thompsons Atom AE Meteors hosted the Ilderton Jets on Friday evening and put forth an excellent effort in the hard fought game. Heading into the game, the OMHA series was tied at 3 points with both teams looking to take the lead in the series. The Meteors fought hard to win the battles for the puck and displayed strong back-checking when the Jets put pressure on the defence.
Ilderton would get on the scoreboard first at the mid-point of the first period but the Meteors would continue to check hard and battle for the puck. With 35 seconds left in the first period Brayden Glauser would break the Ilderton defence and make a top shelf shot from high in the slot to tie the game at 1. The teams would skate to a draw at the end of the second as neither goalie could be beaten in the period. Ilderton would pull ahead of the Meteors with two more goals in the third period. Mitchell would pull their goalie for the final two minutes of the game and despite good chances and heavy pressure on the Jets they could not beat the Ilderton goalie and the score would remain 3-1.
The Meteors will head to Ilderton on Saturday morning looking for a win to send the series to a game six next week.
