Meteors Take Lead In OMHA Semi-Final Series
Game 2 of the OMHA semi-finals against Ilderton once again had all fans sitting on the edges of their seats! Mitchell defeated Ilderton in the second game of the series, after an exciting game one ended in a tie the previous night. Both teams skated hard and played defensively, which resulted in the first period finishing off with a nothing-nothing draw.

Ilderton opened the scoring in the second period.  Within minutes, Mitchell's Kyle Mills would answer this with a unassisted, top shelf goal, which would see the second period end with one goal a piece.  To start off the third period, Jaxon Hartwig tapped in a rebound from Noah Mann and Logan Ruby to put Mitchell ahead for the first time in the game.  Another insurance goal by Mills was scored shortly after, assisted by Evan O'Rourke and Caleb Templeman, which gave them a two goal lead.  The Meteors had their work cut out for them halfway through the third period, which found them down two men due to time in the penalty box.  The boys fought hard and killed the time with stellar defensive play, along with goalie, Brennan Vanderkulen, who continued to stand tall in net, robbing the Jets of any short handed shots getting past the pipes.  With two minutes left in the game, Mitchell once again found themselves on the penalty kill.  With the Ilderton net empty, it was 6 on 4.  Ilderton scored with 18 seconds left, but that would be all that the Mitchell boys would allow, ending the game with a final 3-2 score in Mitchell's favour.   The Meteors didn't give up, and outworked  the Jets right to the end.  The solid defensive squad made up of Ruby, O'Rourke, Jake Crowley, and Lucas Roobroek continued to be key players in the series, as they cleared the puck and kept the action away from the Mitchell end.  Game three in the series will be played Sunday, Feb. 27th at 6 p.m. in Monkton.
