Meteors Shut Out Ice Dogs
The Thompsons Atom AE Meteors stepped up their defensive play on Saturday as they shut out the BCH Ice Dogs 2-0 in Clinton. Goalie Brennen Vanderkylen stood tall in net and was given strong support from his defensive squad consisting of Logan Ruby, Blake Redfern, Jake Crowley and Evan O'Rourke. Both teams came out skating hard in the first period but neither team could break though and get on the scoreboard early.
In the second period, the end to end action continued until Logan Ruby would fire a bullet from the point and put it right past the Clinton goalie. Mitchell's offense would get several more shots on the Clinton goalie in the second period, but the score would remain 1-0 after two.
The third period was a test for the defense as Mitchell would be on the penalty kill four times in the period. The team was able to come together to keep Clinton's shots to a minimum and even rallied for a goal as Ethan Meinen would get a hold of the puck in front of the Clinton goalie and find the back of the net. Assists on the goal went to Kyle Mills and Noah Mann. Clinton would pull their goalie in the last minute to make a final push for a goal, but the Meteors would defend their lead with smart play in their own end and hold on for the 2-0 win.
