Atom AE's Win 3-1 Over Zurich
The Thompsons Atom AE Meteors notched their third straight win in exhibition play in Zurich on Wednesday night. Both teams battled hard to start the game and the action was end to end for the first 6 minutes. The first scoring opportunity would be manufactured by Mitchell as Lucas Roobroeck would snag the puck at centre ice and skate for an unassisted break away goal. Moments later James McCarthy would have a similar scoring chance but the shot would ring off the goal post.
In second period play Roobroeck would put the puck past a sprawling Zurich goalie for his second goal of the game. Just seconds later Meteor's Caleb Templeman would find the back of the net on an assist by Roobroeck. Zurich would answer back with a goal of their own before the period ended putting the score at 3-1 for Mitchell at the end of two.
Goalie Brennen Vanderkylen and his defensive squad would close the door on Zurich in the third period. Vanderkylen would make several key saves to keep his team in the win column as the final seconds of the game ticked away leaving the Meteors with the 3-1 win.
The Atom AE's will play their first regular season game against the Saugeen Shores Storm on Saturday afternoon.
