Meteors Open Playdowns With Shut Out Win
The New Orleans Pizza PeeWee AE Meteors were on fire Friday night as they took down the Listowel Cyclones with a 5-0 shut out in their first game of the OMHA Playdowns. On home ice, the Meteors would take the lead early in the game as Jack Miller would take a pass from Hayden Nicholson and head down ice to fire a perfect shot just under the crossbar to beat the Cyclone's goalie.

The Meteors would dominate the second period with energetic, aggressive play leading to a four goal period that the Cyclones would not be able to recover from. Miller would continue his strong play, and after a rush into the Cyclones end would find himself behind the net and fight to make a pass up front to Carter O'Brien who would bury the puck in the wide open net. Miller would give the team a 3-0 lead with another top-shelf shot from the slot after the pass in front by Nicholson. On the next shift, just one minute later, Jack Van Loon would clear the puck from the Meteors' end and get it up to Ethan Meinen setting up a two-on-one situation in favour of the Meteors. Meinen would carry the puck deep into the zone and make a perfect pass across the top of the crease to Jacob Dietrich who would tap it in for the 4-0 lead. Grayson Yost would round out the scoring for Mitchell with Hayden Nicholson getting his third assist of the night.

Strong defensive play by Nicholson, Van Loon, Blake Redfern, Lucas Mahon, and Bryce Otten kept the Cyclones grounded in the third period as they fought off three Cyclone power plays. Meteor goalie Joel Meinen would get the shut out win making several key saves in the final minutes as Listowel fought hard to get on the board.
