Silver Medal For PeeWee AE's In Mitchell PeeWee Tournament
After a wild double overtime left the game in a deadlock, a shootout was needed to decide the championship game at the 63rd Annual Mitchell PeeWee Tournament. The New Orleans Pizza PeeWee AE's would come away with a hard fought silver medal. In the AE final game, the Mitchell Meteors faced an evenly matched South Huron team that left fans on the edges of their seats for five periods and a shootout.

South Huron would open scoring early in the first period on a screened shot just 48 seconds into the game. The Meteors would come back to tie the game at 4:18, still in the first period as the they put pressure on the Sabres. Jack Miller would be in perfect position in front of the net for Grayson Yost to pass the puck over to him. He would fire a quick shot to beat the Sabres goalie in what would be the Meteors' only goal of the game.

The second and third periods would pass with action at both ends of the ice with both teams battling hard. Strong forechecking by the Meteors would help to keep the pressure on the Sabres. In the third period, the Meteors would get several good chances on a power play, but would be unable to score. The third period would end with both teams sitting at one goal, and on to overtime they would go.

The first overtime period would be 4 on 4 for 3 minutes of nail biting action with neither team able to beat the strong goaltending at each end of the ice. A second overtime would be needed, and would see 3 on 3 action for three minutes. Meteor's goalie Joel Meinen would shut down the Sabres with his hot glove as well as making a big pad save in the final seconds of the period.

A shootout would be needed to break the deadlock and South Huron would manage a goal in the second round. The Meteors would finish a great weekend of entertaining hockey with the silver medal. Congratulations go out to our goalie Joel Meinen for being awarded the MVP of the Tournament, a well deserved title for always keeping his team in the game.

The AE Meteors will play in their third straight tournament next weekend as they head to Collingwood to play in the Silverstick Tournament.
