PeeWee AE's Advance To Semi-Finals In Tillsonburg
Submitted By Jeanette Redfern on Saturday, November 03, 2018
With a win over the Listowel Cyclones today, the New Orleans Pizza PeeWee AE Meteors will advance to the semi-final round in the Bob Tansley Memorial Tournament in Tillsonburg. The Meteors would open scoring early in the first period with a hard shot from the point from the stick of Blake Redfern, as he beat the Cyclone's goalie over the shoulder on the glove side. Brock Boville and Preston Porter would assist on the goal.

The Cyclones would answer back with a goal of their own just one minute later. The Meteors would end the period with strong pressure in the Listowel zone, pounding shots and rebounds but without luck. In the second, Listowel would manage a goal as the Meteors had a hard time clearing the puck from their end. At the mid-point of the period, during a scramble in front of the net, Carter O'Brien would manage to poke in the loose puck to tie the game at two. Before the end of the period, Redfern would be able to move the puck to an open Jack VanLoon who would give the Meteors the lead heading to the third period.

Both teams would battle hard as the time passed in the third period, and there would be good scoring chances at both ends of the ice. Goalie Joel Meinen would lock down his net and help the Meteors hold on to their lead. In an exciting finish, the Meteors would get some insurance on a power play goal that featured perfect passing from Grayson Yost up to Jacob Dietrich and then across the front of the net so Noah Mann could beat the Cyclone's goalie on a wide open net. In the final seconds of the game Lucas Mahon would show great hustle as he chased down and stopped a Cyclone break away. Mitchell's Hayden Nicholson would be awarded Player of the Game, standing out for his hustle and determination on each shift.
