PeeWee AE's Win In Arthur To Open Season
The New Orleans Pizza PeeWee AE's opened their league play with a road win in Arthur on Saturday afternoon. The Meteors hit the ice with good energy and quickly controlled the puck leading to several great scoring chances early in the first period. The Arthur Vipers would, however, be the first to score on a power play goal at the end of the period with the puck deflecting off a skate and into the net.
The Meteors would continue their strong play into the second period with a great scoring chance by Jack Miller and Charlie Geiger. The Meteors would get two power plays in the middle frame but would be unable to net the puck until the last thirty seconds of the period. Hayden Nicholson would make a perfect pass out of the Meteor's end up to Brock Boville who would then get the puck up to Preston Porter at the Viper's blue line. Porter would go in alone and make a top shelf shot to beat the goalie and bring the game to a tie.
In the third period, the Meteors would have a close call saved by the goalie post on an Arthur break away and goalie Joel Meinen would come up with a big glove save again moments later. With 5 minutes to go in the game, the Meteors would pressure the Vipers with shots. Geiger would move the puck to Jack Van Loon on the far right side of the goalie and Van Loon would make a perfect shot to beat the goalie and put the Meteors in the lead. In the final minutes of the game the Meteors would hold their ground with Meinen standing tall in net to come away with the win.
The AE Meteors will head to Listowel on Monday evening to face the Cyclones for their next game.
