Novice Girls Hold Off St Thomas
The Dodge Caravan Kids Meteor Novice Girls hosted the St Thomas Panthers for the second consecutive weekend in Monkton, avenging last week's loss with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Abigayle Van Bakel opened the scoring early in the first period, assisted by Ava Harmer. Zoey Michel would add to the lead moments later, jumping on a loose puck in the slot and firing a hard shot in. Assists went to Harmer and Van Bakel. The Meteors continued pressing, but couldn't take advantage of a power play after Camryn Medhurst was hauled down on a breakaway. St Thomas would kill the penalty and then come back and score on their own breakaway moments later.
Goaltender Ellie MacArthur was spectacular all game, making a huge glove save on a Panthers breakaway late in the second period to help preserve the win.
The Meteors played a solid game at both ends of the ice, out-shooting the Panthers and continually back-checking hard to stop St Thomas scoring chances.
