The Mitchell Dodge Grand Caravan Meteors Novice Girls HL
team competed in the finals of their division this week against a strong Huron
Heat team and came away as champions of division IV. The girls showed great teamwork, hard work
and dedication as they took the best of 3 series in 2 games.
Game 1 was March 21st in Mitchell. In a tight battle back and forth half way through the first period Tegan Mace would bury a rebound off of a shot from Alayna Mckay to get the home team on the board. In the second period Alayna would put home a rebound from Abigayle Van Bakel's shot to make it 2 0 for the home team. The girls would keep their feet moving with strong forechecking from Hailiegh Templeman, Kayla Visneskie and Selina Gethke. The defense of Maren Marshall, Addy Wolfe, Grace Bach and Macie Russwurm did a great job keeping the puck in the Heat end and battling in our end to keep the Heat shooters from getting to the net. Ellie Macarthur was perfect in net and made some huge saves to preserve the 2- 0 win.
Game 2 was in Clinton on March 23rd with a chance to wrap the series up. This was the Ellie Macarthur show as she stopped numerous point blank shots and breakaways. The girls were all rolling in this back and forth intense affair. In the 2nd period Haileigh Templeman would bang home a loose puck on a feed from Macie Russwurm. After that the teams traded chances back and forth and the final score would be 1- 0 for Mitchell!!
Congratulations to this bunch of hard working and fun loving group of girls who grew as a team and their hard work paid off to become the champs!! They showed their love of the game with respect and sportsmanship to cap off a great year.
