It was an exciting weekend for the Dodge
Grand Caravan Novice Girls HL team. They Participated in the “Panthers on the Prowl” in St. Thomas and
came away as the champions when it was all done.
In the first game, the girls ran into a
solid squad the “London Devilette Silver Sharks” and were hanging right in
there with a goal from Haileigh assisted by Abigayle and Ellie. Selina was great in net but London would win
6-1. Haileigh was named Player of the
Game.
The second game on Friday came against the other London team, “Blue Thunder”. Needing a win, the girls put forward a great effort. Alaynah would start the scoring from Abigayle. Then Haileigh would score from Abigayle and Ellie. Abigayle would then score from Kayla and Ellie. Macie would finish off the scoring from Abigayle and Addy and the Mitchell girls would win 4-1. Tegan made some key saves to in net. Player of the Game was Abigayle.
The third game on Saturday, would see the Meteors take on the Flamborough Falcons. Abigayle would lead the way with 2A and 1A. Alaynah and Macie would each add a goal while Haileigh , Addy, and Kayla would pick up assists for a nail biting 4-3 win. Tegan had another exceptional game in net and Grace was a rock on the point and picked up Player of the Game award. Selina was probably the biggest star of the game Busting a Move to M.C. Hammer’s-“ Can’t Touch This”. The crowd was in stitches laughing from Center ice!!
In a must win game 4, against the hometown St. Thomas Panthers the girls came out flying and Abigayle went on a tear scoring all 3 goals with assists going to Addy, Haileigh-2, Macie, Selina and Grace. Tegan was again a force in the net. Addy stepped up and played her best game of the year shutting down opponents from getting to the net and was awarded Player Of the Game. This game put the girls in the final against the tough London Devilette Silver Sharks team.
In the final, the girls knew they were in tough and London came out hard and scored 2 quick goals in the first period to go up 2-0. The girls could have given up but they bounced back and everybody stepped up and played a great team game the rest of the way. Abigayle led the way with 3 goals and assists going to Grace, Ellie, Haileigh , Maren 2 and the girls would be champions with a nail biting 3-2 victory. Maren, Macie, Addy and Grace were stellar on Defence while Alaynah , Kayla ,Ellie ,Haileigh, Selina and Abigayle kept the puck in their end. Tegan stood tall in the net and shut the door the rest of the way. Great effort by all the girls and congrats on the Championship!!!
