Stunning results from YNCU reps as they blast through the round robin play at the Demeyere Vic Jackson Tournament in Simcoe
The Atom rep boys push to a shootout in the first game and pick up the first win. With a 3-2 final from that game against the Lambeth Lancers the boys pushed off that momentum to post two resounding shutouts to follow. The three wins give the boys the afternoon off and send them straight to a lunchtime match Sunday with the winner taking their place in the final.

Early Friday afternoon your Neighborhood Credit Union Atom boys faced off against the Lambeth Lancers. With a shaky start the boys slowly settled in and were matching chance to chance with Lambeth. Despite the well fought battles the lancers were able to find the back of Mitchell’s net with a late 1st and early 2nd period pair. But at 2-0 the black, yellow and white boys were far from out and goaltender Hayden Beuermann made sure to brick the wall up and keep his team in the match. Josh French answered back to Lambeth first as he was set up from Rhett Terpstra 2 minutes into the second. The tie marker would come from Lucas Roobroeck assisted by Jarrett VanBakel late in the same period as he scored high on a point shot. The score would stay knotted up all the way through the remainder of the game and would force a shootout to decide a winner. As Tater (Beuermann) was able to stop the first shooter so was Lambeth’s goaltender and it stayed in a tight tie. The second round brought a goal for each as Vincent Voros was able to net one for the reps to keep the horns locked. Third round of shooters and a big stop by Tater followed up with a goal by French to clinch the shootout victory.

Friday evening and the boys were back on the ice as they set their sights against the hometown favorite Warriors. Mitchell would dominate early as they took an early one goal lead just 34 seconds in. Terpstra would net the first with helpers from Caleb Templeman and Brock Boville. A penalty mid-way through the 1st would test the boys as shots were flying towards the net but with some blocked shots, a sprawling save by Tater and the help of a post the puck would remain out of the net and the boys would kill the short hand. The lead would remain at just one until early in the third period when Jack Small would score from Voros pass on a power play. A quick follow up from that from Roobroeck as he would net yet another high hard shot to put the boys up by 3. Voros would net another lone marker before things were done and give Mitchell the 4-0 win and another three points to their total.

Saturday morning and the boys would square up to Dunnville for the final robin game. Another early goal from Voros would put the boys in the driver’s seat early but a couple early penalties against Mitchell would test the boys as the Mudcats would send the puck back to the point for repeated slap shots from a very strong and accurate defenseman. But with the shot blocking out again and good work from our own defenders like Daniel Ogilvie and Kellen Russworm as well as James McCarthy coming back to help the blueline squad out, they were able to keep the lead and correct their penalty troubles. As the tables seemed to turn and Dunnville found themselves in their own penalty woes, the YNCU reps would do what they do and start pouring it on. Kyle Mills would find his number hit the scoresheet as he earned points with some assists as well as netting one of his own in the 10-0 final.

Great work by all the team as they move on to play against Lucan tomorrow for a shot at the afternoon finals
