YNCU Atom Rep boys end October with some serious competition in league play
A nail biting loss and a back and forth battle result in a weekend where the points don't match the hard work and effort spent on the ice for the Your Neighborhood Credit Union Atom Rep boys.

On Saturday evening the boys hosted Saugeen Shores as the Storm rolled into Mitchell on a seven game winning streak. Despite a hard start from the lake shore foes that put our Meteors back on their heels for the first couple minutes, the rep boys quickly settled in and let Saugeen know that this was not going to be an easy night. As both teams traded chance after chance the blue line squad for both the blue and white jerseys were equal to the task. Some first and third period sin bin troubles offered power play opportunities to both teams, but our defense stood strong breaking up Storm scoring chances and blocking shots. A tremendous game from Mitchell goalie Hayden Beuermann was a difference maker in the game also as he made crucial stops to keep Saugeen off the score clock until late in the third. Unfortunately with an even 3 left in the third the Storm were able to get the rubber past Tater, with a deflected shot, to find the back of the home teams net. An extra hard effort with an extra attacker to end the third just wasn't enough to get Mitchell on the clock for a tie as they dropped the match to Saugeen 1-0. When interviewed after the game Tater (Beuermann) quickly complemented his defense saying "it's a good thing Rhett (Terpstra) blocked that shot with 5 minutes left and saved my butt".

Sunday would bring a new challenge as the Your Neighborhood Credit Union Atoms traveled north on hwy 23 to face Listowel. A different start to this match as Vincent Voros grabbed the team a 1-0 lead after the first while Josh French got the helper. The second would bring two more for the Meteors as Caleb Templeman scored early in the frame and James McCarthy later. But the Cyclones would match the period as they scored their second goal of the period with a mere second of time left before the buzzer. Listowel would find themselves tied early in the third but again Templeman would find a way past the home netminder again to retake the Mitchell lead. But the Cyclones not to be outdone would add two more to obtain a one goal lead of their own with just under 3 minutes left. With Beuermann pulled to run the extra attacker again the Meteors refused to go quietly as Voros scored to tie the bout. Jack Small and Terpstra were the helpers on the important goal. With a 5 all tie Mitchell held on to split the game points and take some benefit away from a hard fought weekend.

The boys will host Goderich on Thursday night as the Sailors come inland on hwy 8.
