Tournament Champs!
Walkom's Valu-Mart Tyke 1 Meteors played like a finely tuned machine on Friday and Saturday (January 20 & 21) as they completed a perfect tournament finishing 3 and 0 to capture the BCH Tournament Championship!

The Meteor's tournament began on Friday evening against the host team BCH Ice Dogs. The boys came storming out of the gates and quickly established themselves in the offensive zone. In a game that saw every Meteor on the score sheet at least once, it was all business as they made it look easy coasting to a 15 - 1 victory. Netminding was handled by Blake Otten who finished the night with 13 saves.

Noted as the game of the tournament, Saturday afternoon's semi final was anything but a walk in the park. The Meteor's faced a tough Zurich team that was just as eager to make it through the semi's for a spot in the finals. Mitchell again forced the issue setting up shop in the offensive end, but the Zurich goal tender turned away several attempts for most of the first period. Cole Templeman finally solved the Meteor's scoring problem putting away a rebound with 2:39 remaining in the first period to tie the game at 1-1. Ben Hubbard added another goal thirty seconds later with the assist coming from Connor Wolfe and Mitchell led 2 - 1 at the end of the first. The second period continued with fast paced action seeing lots of opportunities at both ends. With 5 mins remaining Zurich tied the game up at 2 a piece on a goal that Meteor goaltender Michael Coyne did his best to keep off the goal line but lost out by inches.  Blake Otten made sure the Meteor's headed into the third with a 3 - 2 lead on a great pass from Carter Harris.  The third period saw Mitchell again dominate the offensive end for most of the game but couldn't convert on several opportunities. Coyne made several key saves with the crowd favourite coming by way of a loud 'tinging' sound heard from his metal face mask. With about a 1:30 left to play in the game Zurich called a timeout to try and regroup. It ended up helping out the Meteor's as they followed Head Coach Mike Jarmuth's faceoff play to perfection and Owen Jarmuth scored the insurance goal to give Mitchell the 4 to 2 victory and a spot in the finals.

In the championship game Mitchell faced off against a chippy Lambeth team. Like the rest of the tournament Mitchell stuck to the game plan of keeping the puck in the offensive end and it only took a minute for Ben Hubbard to put Mitchell up 1 - 0. Hubbard finished with a game high 4 goals and 1 assist. The Tyke's again coasted to victory and skated away with the championship banner closing out Lambeth 8 - 2. Other goals came from Owen Jarmuth (3) and Bryson Eickmeyer (1). Helpers came from Blake Otten, Reegan Vessie and Tyler Burtenshaw. Carter Harris finished the game with 19 saves on the evening. After the game the coaching staff couldn't have been more pleased with the team effort the boys put forth for the entire weekend. Great work boys!
