The Lockhart Pee Wee local league Mitchell Meteors opened the 60th Annual Mitchell Pee Wee tournament Friday night against the Lucan Irish.  The Meteors looked like they were still reeling from the first loss of the season the prior weekend and did not play their best hockey.

After a scoreless first period Lucan opened the scoring in early in the second.  Mitchell did manage some strong pressure on the Irish but couldn’t sustain any momentum.  Lucan managed to pot an insurance goal halfway through the third and that’s how the game would finish 2-0 Lucan.

The Meteors came back Saturday night against the Twin Centres Stars and managed to put together a much better performance.  Charlie Wood scored his first career goal with 2 minutes left in the first period with assists from PJ Marshall and Braedon McLean.  Twin Centres would tie it up late in the second, but that was all the Stars could do as Mitchell scored 5 unanswered goals in the third.  Basil and Dominic Voros would each score a single and Marshall netted a hat trick.  Jason Mills got 3 assists, Will Steinbach Spencer Boyce and MacLean each got 2 assists and Josh Bedour and Marshall added a single assist each.  Austin Weir had an excellent game between the pipes.

Mitchell’s final game of the tournament Sunday morning saw the Meteors defeat the Schomberg Red Wings 3-2.  Jaeden Faulkner opened the scoring for the Meteors with a goal in the first minute of the game, with an assist to Damon Roobroeck.  Despite some extended pressure throughout the first period Mitchell couldn’t add to their lead.  Schomberg came back strong in the second period tying the game in the first minute and carrying much of the play.  Only a strong performance from Charlie Wood, in net this game kept it tied at the end of the second. The Red Wings managed to take the lead early in the third period.  That goal seemed to reawaken the Meteors who dominated the rest of the way.  PJ Marshall tied the game up on a pass from Basil Voros at the 7 minute mark and Mitchell took the lead with a little over 2 minutes left on a goal from Spencer Boyce assisted by Josh Bedour.  Keegan Hunt also played an excellent game for the Meteors. Despite the 2 wins the Lockhart Pee Wee local league Mitchell Meteors did not make the semi-finals.
