Thompson's Atom AE's win WOAA Neilson Division as well as the OMHA - WOAA Atom AE Division
Congratulations boys on a FANTASTIC Season!

The Thomspon Atom AEs swept their WOAA League and their OMHA – WOAA Division championship series with the Hanover Falcons with a 3-2 overtime victory Sunday March 22 in Hanover.

After nine days off since the second game of the series, both teams started slow and a sloppy first period ended 0-0.   Hanover opened the scoring just over two minutes into the second period.  The Meteors managed to tie the game up at 6:26 of the second on a goal by Evan Macarthur assisted by Damen Roobroeck.  Less than a minute later Drew Partridge gave Mitchell their first lead of the game with the assist going to PJ Marshall. The whole series had been a back and forth struggle and tonight was no different as two and half minutes into the third period Hanover tied the game at 2.  The Meteors would regain the lead at the seven minute mark with a goal by Roobroeck assisted by goalie Charlie Wood.  It was Wood’s first point of the season.  Hanover would not quit though and with under two minutes left in the third they tied it once more to force overtime.    The overtime period was a back and forth affair with Wood and the Hanover goalie making many tough saves at both ends of the ice.  Finally defenceman Macarthur took a pass from defence partner Roobroeck and carried the puck across the blueline. Firing a hard wrister that eluded the Hanover goalie, Macarthur's goal won the game and clinched the series for the Thompson Atom AEs.  It was the Meteors fourth win in four overtime games this playoffs.

The Thompson Atom AEs had opened their league and WOAA championship series Wednesday March 11 in Hanover.  The game was a tight,  penalty-filled affair.   The Meteors drew first blood on a goal from Partridge.  Hanover responded three minutes later to tie the game.  PJ Marshall gave Mitchell back their one goal lead with a helper from Partridge.  Hanover responded a minute and half later to tie the score back up.  Mitchell kept the pressure up and was rewarded 30 seconds into the third period when Marshall got his second of the game from Spencer Boyce.  Less than a minute later Hanover once again tied the game up.  Coulter Rolph put the Meteors up for good with just over a minute left in the game.  This time Mitchell didn’t leave enough time for Hanover to respond and the Meteors came away with the win.  Charlie Wood played well and got the win in net.

Mitchell hosted the Hanover Falcons for the game two of their championship series Friday March 13.  It was another back-and-forth affair that would take overtime to decide.  Hanover opened the scoring at 6:18 of the first period.  The Meteors responded just 14 seconds later on a goal from Rolph.  Jamie Feltz gave Mitchell the lead at the 8 minute mark of the second with assists from Xavier Lorentz and Andrew Van Bakel.  Hanover tied the game up a minute and a half into the third period.  No one else could score in regulation, setting up overtime.  The overtime continued to be a seesaw affair with chances at both ends.  Austin Weir in net for the Meteors made a number of excellent saves.  With four minutes left in the overtime period Mitchell broke into the Hanover zone, and Partridge was able to net the game winner with an assist to Marshall.  The defence corp of Roobroeck, Macarthur, Reidy and  Rolph played well throughout the game.
