Hartwig Leads Novice AE's in Playoff Opener
The Dodge Caravan Kids Novice AE's opened up their playoffs with a hard fought 6-4 win over the home town Arthur Vipers. Despite the long weekday drive, the Meteors were able to take a 2-0 point lead in the 6 point series.
Jaxen Hartwig would lead Mitchell with two goals midway through the contest. His first came at the end of the opening period with Brayden Glauser and Jordan Visneskie each scoring early to give Mitchell a 3-1 lead after one.
The second period saw Mitchell score two more goals from Hartwig and Jack Small to take a 5-3 lead. The Vipers would cut the lead to 5-4 early in the third period, but from then on Mitchell goalie Jack Bree would shut the door on Arthur. Visneskie would net his second into an empty net with just six seconds left in the contest to put the game away . Assists in the game would go to Small, Visneskie, Glauser, Charlie Geiger, Jake Crowley, Dominic Marshall, and Kellen Russwurm.
The Meteors will now head back to Arthur on Saturday for Game 2 before hosting Game 3 in Monkton on Sunday.
