Novice AE's Capture Jacobi Division Crown
The Dodge Caravan Kids Novice AE's capped a hugely successful season by winning the Jacobi Division title with a 5-1 win over the visiting Drayton Defenders. The locals won the deciding game of the four point series on home ice Saturday afternoon.
The first period saw end-to-end action with both goalies standing strong, especially Meteors goalie Jack Bree making several big saves to keep the contest scoreless after one.
The middle frame saw more even play up and down the ice. The visiting Defenders would open the scoring midway through the second, but Jordan Visneskie would answer back with a wrist shot over the Drayton goalie's glove with two minutes left to tie the score at one.
In the last period of the game, the Mitchell defence lead by James McCarthy, Jake Crowley, Kellen Russwurm, Lucas Roobroeck and Blake Redfern would limit the visiting chances while the Meteors offence took over the game.
Only 24 seconds into the third period Charlie Geiger with assists from Jack Small and Jaxen Hartwig, would convert a goal mouth scramble into a 2-1 lead and the Meteors would never look back. Four minutes later Visneskie would net his second of four goals assisted by Small and Jack Miller. Two more goals in the final minute of play by Visneskie and assists by Dominic Marshall and Brayden Glauser would round out the scoring for the home side.
