The Girls keep going...
The novice girls played two games this past weekend, landing one tie and a close loss.
In the first game Saturday against the Lucan Irish the Mitchell girls came on strong in the first period with two goals, both by Sadie M, assisted by Cydney on one. Some aggressive shots on net by Ellie, Alyssa and Alia were all stopped by Lucan's goalie, holding the game at 2 to 0 going into the second period. Lucan came back to battle adding two goals of their own to the score board. Once again, our scorer Sadie M weaved her way through the crowd leading her team to the net to score her third goal of the game.
Heading into the third period, ahead on the score board by one Mitchell failed to protect their net, letting in a Lucan goal. Charlee let one go to find the back of the net, for her second goal of the season and giving Mitchell the lead! Lucan not to be out-done scored with three minutes left in the game to tie it all up 4 to 4.
Sunday morning the girls travelled to Belmont to face the Blazers. Feeling sluggish from the morning drive the team did not play as sharp and aggressive as they did on Saturday. Belmont scored in the first three mintues of the game, slipping one past Shawni in net, who covered and blocked a lot of shots to hold them off. The second period saw Belmont scoring twice more to tally their goals to three. Alyssa worked with Sadie M to score and put Mitchell on the board. Mitchell stepped up with some shots by Claire and Brett that were stopped by the Belmont goalie. In the end Nicole won the scramble in front of the net to earn a goal. The game ended in a loss for Mitchell with a final score of 3 to 2.
