Twin Centre Frozen Classic
Your U18 E&F Masonry Mitchell Meteors entered the Twin Centre Frozen Classic this weekend and put on a strong performance to come out as runner ups.

The Meteors started out the tournament Friday morning in the St. Jacob's Arena against the home teamTwin Centre Stars.  In that rustic old barn the big shot of Zach Siemon-Hergott would be heard as he would go on to blast three(3) goals for the hat trick.  The relentless hard skating of Tyler Scherbarth would pay off as he would pot two goals of his own followed by Max Hannon chipping in a helper.  The towering Aiden McCann in net was too much for the Twin Centre Stars as he would go on to record a shut out.

Game two would be another early morning event with the Meteors taking on the New Hamburg Huskies at the Twin Centre-Wellesley Arena.  In the spectacular brand new arena, Aiden McCann would stand tall again with a outstanding performance allowing only 1 goal against.  Max Hannon would show off the soft mitts with two goals to start the Meteors off followed by a goal from Charlie Wolfe and one from Jonah Gibbings.

With a first place seating in there division, the Mitchell Meteors had to wait for their next opponent to be determine.  In a late game later that Saturday night the stage would be set for a re-match with New Hamburg Huskies in St. Clements.  In this affair, Aiden McCann would once again loom large over the crease protecting yet another game shut out.  The wise veteran of the team, Hayden Beuermann, would make a savvy move to get into open space and score a sure goal.  Next up the rookie, Charlie Wolfe would chase down a puck short handed, steal it from the opposing goalie and wrap it around for all out effort goal.  Jonah Gibbings would show off some silky smooth moves to add an additional goal.  With seconds left in the game and the net empty, Colby Ryan would win a puck battle and send a laser sure shot from his end of the ice down into an empty net.

Semi-Finals drew the rival Central Perth Predators.  With two games already between the two in regular league action, the Meteors knew they were going to be battle tested in this one.  In a close tightly fought game that everyone expected, the Predators struck first.  Late in the third period, Griffin Bree would use his speed to wheel past the Predators defense to pot a goal short side to tie the game.  With no team budging they would go into overtime.  In overtime, and three on three, and time running out, Charlie Wolfe would strike to end the game to win it 2 to 1.

The championship Match-up came against Thornton.  Thornton would come out strong and go up 2-0 starting the second period.  However, Zach Siemon-Hergott would unleash a blistering shot that the big power forward Zach Huygen would pick up and bury in front of the net to put Mitchell on the board.  Later Thornton would add two more to go up 4 to 1.  But Mitchell had too much fight left in them, and when Colby Ryan would carry the puck in deep to find Griffin Bree who would find an open Liam Hunt at the side of the net bringing the boys within two.   Later, Rogan Cattalan would send a saucer pass over to the veteran Brock Boville who would not be denied with a vicious slap shot which would end up the last goal of the tournament.  The Meteors would fall 4 to 3 and take the runner up position and the Frozen Classic.
