The Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL team had a busy week with 4 playoff games following their big win in Lefroy.
Tuesday night had the Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL team traveling to Listowel. After a scoreless first period, Reegan Vessie went end to end to score an unassisted goal and get the momentum going. Hayden DeJong put another goal on the scoreboard with the assist going to Trayton Keyser. Listowel quickly answered back and it was a 2-1 game. Vessie's power play goal, assisted by Dylan Dietrich, was the third and final goal. Great goaltending by Landon Glauser contributed to the close game between these team rivals.
The Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL team traveled to Howick on Wednesday night. The first and second periods remained scoreless but not for a lack of effort on the part of the Meteors. Early in the third period, Reegan Vessie took a pass from Trayton Keyser and snuck it past the Howick goalie. Jones McLaughlin was in position and ready when Keyser and Hayden DeJong got the puck to him and they increased the lead 2-0. Vessie earned another goal with an end to end rush. Howick got 1 goal late in the third and the final score was 3-1 for Mitchell. Taitum Vessie played a strong game between the goal posts and stopped a lot of shots.
The Drayton Defenders hosted the Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL squad on Saturday. Drayton got the first goal. With 1 second left in the second period, Henry Schoonderwoerd took a quick shot after a pass from Reegan Vessie and tied it at 1 each. Drayton took that lead again, but Mitchell answered back with some fancy stick handling and two quick goals, one by Hayden DeJong and the second was Weston Bannon. Dylan Dietrich earned assists on both. Landon Glauser earned the win in net with a final score of 3-2 for the Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL.
The final game of the weekend featured Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL at home against Listowel Cyclones 1. Simon Jenson opened up the scoring with the assist to Jones McLaughlin. Liam Baker and Reegan Vessie worked together to get the puck to Henry Schoonderwoerd who didn't disappoint and the squad quickly had a 2-0 lead after 1 period of play. Keith Linton, assisted by Baker, netted the third goal. Dylan Dietrich's short handed goal, assisted by Deni Beaudin, ended the second period with a 4-0 lead. The Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL domination continued in the third period with 3 more goals - Dietrich (assisted by Vessie), Jenson (assisted by Greg McKay and Michael Coyne), and Weston Bannon (assisted by Linton and Dietrich). The final score was 7-0 with Taitum Vessie earning a shutout.
The Mark Bannon Backhoe Mitchell Meteors U13 LL team will continue their playoff run at home on Friday night against the Drayton Defenders.
