The Ace Garden Centre U13 girls were keen to hit the ice for
their first two regular season games against the South Huron Sabres and the
Twin Centre Stars.
Game one started out well. The girls worked hard but fell short in a tough 5-1 loss against the Sabres. The Meteors’ lone goal of the game cam from Charlee Weesjes on a nice shot from the blueline to steal the shutout from Sabres netminder.
Game two vs the Twin Centre Stars was a back-and-forth affair. The two well matched teams exchanged a goal each in the first two periods. Martyna Hartwig grabbed the first goal of the period with assists going to Sophia VanNes and Lucy Mahon. The Stars replied with a goal of their own to even the score heading into the second period. The Stars grabbed another in the second, but the Meteors pressed hard resulting in their second goal of the game from Hartwig off a nice pass from Casey Crowely. The third period saw more back-and-forth action and some nice saves from goalie Allie VanBakel to keep the score tied. With six seconds remaining, the Stars managed to poke in a loose puck on the goal line to take the win over the Meteors
