Playoffs began on Saturday with the girls taking the ice against
the Stratford aces.
Sophia VanNes opened the scoring for the Meteors in the first period. Leah Sills would record the assist. Just a few minutes later, Amelia Wolfkamp grabbed some insurance with assists going to Martyna Hartwig and Kinslee Horan.
No scoring in the second period, but lots of action taking place as the Meteors pressed on.
Danica Voros opened things up in the third with assists from Hartwig and Callie VanLoon. Amelia Wolfkamp on fire with her second of the game, assisted by Caley Michels and Charlee Weesjes, rounded off the game with a 4-0 victory.
The team travelled to Howick Sunday for the first of two provincial qualifiers. They met an equally wanting Upper Maitland Mustangs who the Meteors had faced in an earlier Tournament. Lots of action in the game as well with both sides seeing both powerplay and penalty kill opportunities. Lots of offensive chances for the Meteor girls, but just couldn’t get on the board. The defensive squad of Kinslee Horan, Ella Sills, Charlee Weesjes, Casey Crowley and Callie VanLoon did a great job of keeping the Mustangs offense at bay for a soccer style 0-0 finish. Ally VanBakel recorded her second shutout of the weekend.
