U11 Ace Garden Centre Meteor Girls Capture Division Title against Woodstock on Home Ice
After a tie in game one, game two and three would prove to be very close matches as well, with both teams wanting the division title.

Game two took place in Woodstock Tuesday evening. Both teams pressing hard as usual. One penalty for each team presented both sides with powerplay advantages. Plenty of back and forth throughout the first period with Netminder Ally VanBakel making a great breakaway save to keep her girls in the game. Period two saw lots more action with Sophia VanNes initiating a scoring opportunity with her breakaway into the Woodstock zone. The shot was saved but the goalmouth scramble shared by Van Nes, Martyna Hartwig and Amelia Wolfkamp, resulted in Wolfkamp potting the first. The pressure was still on as Woodstock was looking to even things up. The air was let out of the Wildcats tires after Kinslee Horan ripped a shot from the blueline which rebounded off the backboards and deflected off the goalie into the net. That was all that was left for the Meteors 2-0 victory in game two.

Game three took place back in Mitchell. The Meteors had the advantage, only needing a win or a tie to claim the title. With plenty of back and forth chances on both sides, it looked like the game was headed for a tie for almost two periods. Neither side wanting to be the first to give up a goal. Ally VanBakel stood tall in net and made several great saves throughout the game including a great sliding kick save to keep the score tied at 0. With 5 seconds remaining in the second period, Hartwig poked a loose puck through the Woodstock goalie pads but didn’t have enough mustard to cross the line. Caley Michels noticed the opportunity and put the puck in the net to take the lead, with perhaps the largest celebration in U11 Meteor girls’ history. Woodstock took note and responded 10 seconds into the third with a goal of their own to tie it at one a piece. With less than a minute remaining, Woodstock kept pressing with the goalie pulled and the extra skater on the ice. Nothing short of a win would do. The Meteors Defence of Horan, Weesjes, VanLoon, Sills, and Crowley kept things tight on defense. A great team effort with the game ending in a 1-1 tie. It was all that was needed to earn 4 points in the series and claim victory. Congratulations Girls and many thanks to the coaches for their efforts and sacrifices for our girls this season.
