Pink on the Rink off to a great start for U11 Girls
With Pink tape on the sticks, the U11 Ace Garden Centre girls hit the ice taking two wins on the first day.
First period against the Upper Maitland Mustangs finished off tied at zero, but things picked up in the second with Goaltender Ally VanBakel stopping a couple Mustang breakaways to keep the girls in the game. Player of the game Emma Upshall got on the scoresheet first with seven seconds remaining in the second period, assisted by Danica Voros. The Meteors added two more goals in the third period, both from Voros, with an assist being awarded each to Amelia Wolfkamp, and Martyna Hartwig. Final score 3-0 Meteors.
Second game of the day against The TCDMHA Rebels went well in the Meteors favor. The Meteors put lots of pressure on the Rebels throughout the game.
First period had goal from Cailey Michels in the slot, who knew just what to do with the beauty pass from the corner by Voros. Hartwig would finish off the first period scoring, assisted by Leah Sills.
Second period saw a pass by Hartwig to a ready and waiting Voros at centre ice, who charged in to grab another goal for the Meteors. Voros wasn't finished and potted another, assisted by Kinslee Horan. A Meteors penalty put the girls in a shorthanded position , but ended up getting two shorthanded goals, one each from Hartwig and Upshall.
Third period closed out with another goal awarded to the Meteors. Tough to call the goal scorer, but Michels, Upshall, and Leah Sills having equal whacks during the goalmouth scramble, ending the game 7-0. The Defensive squad of Casey Crowley, Kinslee Horan, Callie VanLoon and Charlee Weesjees did a great job defending, helping Goalie Ally VanBakel achieve her second shutout of the day. Player of the game awarded to Casey Crowley.
