Winning streak ends for Ace Garden Centre Meteors
The U11 Meteor girls were assigned some tough competition during the Stratford Aces Festival Cup tournament.

Fridays first game was against Saugeen Shores Storm. Danica Voros opened the scoring on a nice wraparound assisted by Kinslee Horan from her home on the blueline. Saugeen answered back quickly, and then again with only 8 seconds left in the first period. Emma Upshall had a great chance on a breakaway, but the score remained 2-1 after the second. Saugeen opened the third period with the final goal of the game leaving the Meteors with a 3-1 loss to the 2nd place tournament finishers. Ally VanBakel kept the game close in net and was named Player of the game.

Fridays second game was against Carlton Place Cyclones. Carlton got on the board early taking a 2 goal lead, but the Meteors kept trying and were rewarded by a screened shot from the blueline by Horan who was also named player of the game. The Meteors held the score at 2-1 through the second period, but 2 more goals by Carlton in the third would prove too much to overcome, losing the game 4-1 to the eventual tournament champions.

Saturday presented a new opportunity to still advance to Sundays schedule. A win would keep the Meteors hopes alive. Mooretown opened the scoring and took a two goal lead in the first period. Leah Sills had a great breakaway chance with seconds left in the first period.

Mooretown poured on the heat and scored three more goals to be up by 5. Horan, who unleashed her shot from the blueline was able to get the Meteors on the board. A goalmouth scramble by Leah Sills, Emma Upshall and Amelia Wolfkamp came up short to end the game with a 5-1 loss. Ella Sills was presented with player of the game.

With little chance left to advance to Sunday, the girls just focused on getting a win against closely matched Woodstock. First period saw many chances by both teams but would remain tied at zero. Lots more back and forth in the second period with Horan opening the scoring with only a few minutes remaining. Assists went to Ella Sills and Casey Crowley. Martyna Hartwig finished off the second period scoring on a goalmouth rebound, with assists going to Upshall, and Callie VanLoon. Woodstock got on the board with four minutes remaining, but the Meteors would hold them off to win the game 2-1 and knock Woodstock out of Sundays semi-finals. Player of the gam was presented to Amelia Wolfkamp.
