Peewee C girls begin Provincial Playdowns
The Lockhart Funeral Home Peewee C girls went 1-1-1 over a busy four days with 2 league games and a playdown game but got stronger as they went.

On Thursday night the girls traveled Stratford to play the Aces in a league game, but came out on the losing end of a 4-1 score.  Brooklynn French scored the lone goal for Mitchell assisted by Kara Rolph.
On Saturday Mitchell hosted the South Huron Sabres in another league game and came away with a better result winning 4-1.  The Sabres opened the scoring near the end of the first but then it was all Mitchell.  Midway through the second, Jade Huygen buried a rebound from the slot with assists going to Kaylee Seip and Ashley McLeod.  Before the period was over Rolph scored to take the lead.  In the third Jessie Horan scored on a wrist shot from the point to the top of the net with Rolph getting the assist.  Rolph would finish the scoring assisted by Horan for the convincing win. Shawni DeJong was solid in goal as was the defense of Horan, Sadie Josling, Peyton Vanderkuylen and Elli Morrison.
On Sunday the Meteors visited Stratford again, this time for a playdown game and played arguably one of their best games of the year.  Goaltender Ally Vogels got the nod against Stratford again and made some great saves to help turn back the opposition's attack.  French opened the scoring in the first, burying a Rolph rebound and only a minute later McLeod made it 2-0 after hard pressure in the offensive zone with assists going to Huygen and Rachel Haefling.  Stratford fought back and tied the game in the 2nd but Mitchell kept pressing, carrying most of the play in the 3rd.  In the final minutes of the game the Meteors did everything but score hitting the post or crossbar 3 times and had to settle for a 2-2 tie.
