Meteors come up short on three weekend games
The Lockhart Funeral home Peewee C girls had a busy weekend with three playoff games battling hard right to the end.

On Friday the Meteors traveled to St. Marys to play a Provincial Playdown game against the Rock and dominated most of the play but was not able to find their scoring touch losing a close 2-1 game.  Rachel Haefling scored unassisted with a nice shot from the circle with 5:30 left in the first.  Shortly after St. Marys tied the game and early in the second took the lead.  Mitchell had a number of chances but were not able to even the score.
On Saturday the girls hosted Lambton in a league playoff game and even though they were outnumbered, the Meteors fought hard and held a 0-0 tie after two periods.  Lambton scored early in the third and again with 6:50 left in the third on a lucky break when a rebound bounced off a leg and wound up in the net.  The girls pressed hard right to the end with goaltender Shawni DeJong holding them in but could not find the back of the net and wound up losing 2-0.
On Sunday Mitchell hosted the Huron Heat in an important  Provincial Playdown game and once again could not find their scoring touch.  Goaltender Ally Vogels played a great game keeping her team close but at the 7:44 mark of the third the Heat scored on a breakaway to go up 1-0.  Although once again the Meteors had the majority of the scoring chances they could not tie the game up and Huron scored into an empty net with 10 seconds left to take the game 2-0.
The girls only had nine skaters all weekend and played their hearts out and should be proud.  They  continue their playoffs this Tuesday in South Huron and home on Wednesday.
Good luck girls.
