Meteors struck by Lightning but extinguish the Inferno
The Lockhart Funeral Home Peewee C girls split a pair of very close games on the weekend.

On Saturday the Meteors hosted the Tillsonburg Lightning coming up just short in an exciting two way game by a score of 3-1.  Goaltender Ally Vogels played a strong game keeping her team tied until midway through the second period when Tillsonburg scored on a mad scramble in front of the net to give them a 1-0 lead.  Nearing the end of the 3rd, led by the defense group of Jessie Horan, Sadie Josling, Elli Morrison and Peyton Vanderkuylen, Mitchell came up with a very important penalty kill to preserve the chance to tie the game up.  At the 5:50 mark of the period the visitors took a 2-0 lead on a point shot that was screened and deflected putting our girls down by 2 but they did not give up.  Just over 1 minute later Kara Rolph picked up the puck along the boards and raced in on the Lightning goaltender, made a beautiful move forcing the goalie to commit then roofed it to bring our girls withing 1.
Although after working hard with our goalie pulled and creating more chances, the girls just couldn't bury one and Tillsonburg ended up scoring into the empty net to finish the game.
On Sunday the Meteors traveled to Embro to take on the West Oxford Inferno and again it was a very exciting game.  The game was a back and forth affair with goaltender Shawni Dejong making some spectacular saves to help the girls to a 1-0 win and earn the shutout. The contest remained scoreless until midway through the 2nd when some hard work and fine passing found Kaylee Seip wide open in front of the net for a one-timer which was all the girls would need.  Assists went to Rolph and Ashley McLeod.  The Meteors had many chances including Brooklynn French ringing one off the goalie's mask and Jade Huygen and Rachel Haefling fore checking hard to create opportunities. Again the defense corps of Vanderkuylen, Morrison, Josling and Horan played well to help preserve the shutout and kill some important penalties.
