Putting out the flame on the West Oxford Infernos
The Lockhart Funeral Home Girls came to play on Saturday against the West Oxford Infernos. The previous games against this team were within one goal each way, and one of them was won in a shoot out to advance to the finals in the Mitchell tournament.

The game started off at a good pace, Allyson Vogels between the pipes, focused and keen for the win, the defense passing the puck well, giving the forwards multiple opportunities. One of which Jade Huygen capitalized on. With 3:47 left in the first Kaylee Siep passed the puck to the Jessie Horan on defense and who quick passed to Huygen who made no mistake with a top corner snipe. Then 2 minutes later Siep again passes to Huygen who returns the favor to Horan; Horan carries the puck coast to coast and buries the puck top cheese. 2-0 at the end of the first. The second period was a bit of back and forth, Vogels making the saves when called upon and Shawni Dejong make sure the inferno goalie was awake by ringing a shot off her head…just missing the corner. With two minutes left in the second Ashley Mcleod won the battle in the corner and passed the puck out front where Kara Rolph made no mistake beating the goalie blocker side. Kudos the Rachel Haefling for battling hard in the corners and in front of the net, winning the battles to ensure that we maintained possession of the puck. 3-0 end of two. The third period started great, just over two minutes in Ashley Mcleod decides to take one of the great passes and roofs the puck to go up four; Assist to Dejong and Huygen. If that wasn’t enough Mcleod buries one more 1:30 later to make it 5-0; assist Rolph. That ended the scoring for the game but the excitement was not over. The remainder of the third seen the skills of Ellie Morrision, Payton VanDerkuylen and Sadie Josling as they killed a 5 on 3 keeping the shots to a minimum and Vogels earning her shutout to end the game.
