Weekend Games Result in a Split
Saturday the Lockhart Peewee C girls headed
to Embro to face the West Oxford Inferno. The Meteors struck first with
an unassisted goal by Kara Rolph at 5:26 in the first period. Shawni
DeJong played strong in the net to hold the Meteors in the game as the
Inferno's offense pressed in the second and third periods resulting in 3
goals. Meteors pressured and fought hard right to the dying minutes but
were shut down by the Inferno goaltending falling to a 3-1 loss.
Sunday found the Meteors hosting South Huron Sabres. The Meteors came out fast and strong, dominating the play. Kaylee Seip netted the first goal, assisted by Brooklynn French and Jade Huygen at 5:02 in the first period. The Sabres tied the game at 8:57 in the second but after that it was all Meteors. Ally Vogels closed the door on the Sabres with the help of a strong defensive zone presence by Sadie Josling, allowing the offense to take over. Seip added 2 more goals to complete the hat trick! Singles added by Kara Rolph, Elli Morrison, Jessie Horan and Shawni DeJong put the win in the bag. French finished the game with 4 assists, followed by Huygen and Ashley McLeod with 2 assists each. Peyton Vanderkuylen, Rachel Haefling, Rolph and Horan all contributing assists, in the 7-1 victory. It was a fun game to watch as the Meteors played as a team, passing, making plays and building their confidence going into the upcoming Mitchell tournament.
