WOAA Action Begins
The Thompsons Ltd. Mitchell Meteors Atom AE hockey team started off on the right foot this weekend as they began round robin action in the WOAA Neilson Division. The division includes Wingham AE, Listowel AE, Seaforth and Mitchell AE all competing for the top spot in order to move on. Mitchell would host Seaforth on Sunday January 27th, and come away with an impressive 6-0 victory.
During first period action both teams were playing well with end to end action. Some great goal tending by Sebastian Voros was key in keeping the game tied until his teammate Hudson Porter could get the locals on the board, with assists going to `Kaasi` Smith and Jake Richardson. This got the home team pumped and they quickly added another goal. This time it would be Ben Kelly sending it into the back of the net from the point with a shot that was just to hot to handle for Seaforths goalie. Assists would go to Owen Beuermann and Landon Van Bakel.
The second period was similar to the first with many great saves and a few bounces going Mitchells way. The local team would put two more up on the board, both coming from Zack Siemon-Hergott with some well placed shots from the point. Assists went to Griffin Bree, Van Bakel and Porter.
Taking a 4 goal lead into the third period, Mitchell did not let up and had a total team effort. There was some great back checking from both lines with special mention to `AP` Austin Judge, who played with lots of energy for the entire game. Griffin Bree and Carson Brown would each find the back of the net in this frame, with assists going to Beuermann, Van Bakel, Judge and Porter.
The locals would come away with the 6-0 win, preserving the well deserved shut out for Voros.
