WOAA Finals Begins
On Saturday March 16th the Thompsons Ltd. Mitchell Meteor Atom AE team hosted game one of a three game series with the Huron-Bruce Blizzards. The teams had faced each other earlier in the season and they had all been close matches. The Blizzards definitely had the size advantage but in would be Mitchell coming away with the 1-0 win.
First period action saw a lot of the play in the Blizzards end, but Mitchell had a tough time getting any quality shots on net. Huron-Bruce had some chances but Sebastian Voros gave the home team a chance by pushing them all to the side. There would be no score at the end of the first.
The second period saw the locals back off a bit, giving the Blizzards a few more chances. However it would be Mitchell that would end up with a two on none, but one too many passes kept us off the score board. The game would stay deadlocked for another period.
In the third period, penalty trouble started for both teams. In the first part of the period while on the power play, Mitchell was able to keep the puck deep. With a few chances it would be Griffin Bree that would finally put one in, with assists going to Nate Uniac and Jake Richardson. Late in the tight game, Mitchell would find themselves in some penalty trouble of their own. The Blizzards would pull their goalie for the extra attacker making it 6 on 4 with 10 seconds left in the game. This key face off in Mitchells end had everyone on the edge of their seats. Mitchell was able to tie up the Blizzards and not allow any more shots on Voros. Mitchell comes away with game one!
Game two is up in Lucknow on Wednesday March 20th.
