Dodge Caravan Kids Novice C Girls Advance to Finals
Submitted By Neal Hartwig on Sunday, March 17, 2019
After another two game weekend the Novice girls secure a spot in their division final against West Oxford Inferno.

Game one on Saturday was a must win for the girls over the Ilderton Jets.  The game was well played as the girls were all charged up.  The first goal of the game came from Kayla Visneskie as Phoebe Wood helped her break out of a scrum just outside the blueline.  The second and final goal of the game came on a breakaway by Selina Gethke as the Jets were right on her heels, but she kept skating and put it past the Jets goaltender.  The Defensive squad of Kinslee Horan, Elyn Hannon, Ally VanBakel and Avery Smith put the blue line on lock down for the remainder of the game to help Ellie MacArthur record the shutout 2-0 victory.

The Novice Girls needed a win or tie in game two Sunday against the West Oxford Inferno to guarantee a spot in the finals. The Inferno came out strong as they were in a must win situation to seal a spot in the finals.  The Inferno pressed hard and grabbed two goals in the first two periods.  The Meteors had a few good scoring chances in the second period, notably a two on two rush by Gethke and Alise Crawford, and also a great rebound chance by Crawford, who in both cases came up short.  With goaltender MacArthur on the bench toward the end of the third, the meteors looked to take one last chance at taking back the game, but a buzzer beater empty net goal by the Inferno with 0.1 seconds left, sealed the 3-0 loss for the Meteors.

All the Meteors could do was hope for Ilderton to beat North Middlsex later in the afternoon. Their hopes became reality, and left the Meteors tied with the Inferno for first place in their group.  The two teams will face each other in a best of three final to determine the overall winner.
