Taking Time to Remember
On Saturday the McLaughlin's Auto Wholesaling Novice Rep team had the privilege to accompany the Mitchell Hawks on the ice as they honored our Veterans with a pregame Remembrance ceremony. The Novice boys demonstrated a strong sense of respect as they circled the rink carrying the Canadian flag and as they stood in attention during the playing of the Last Post alongside the Hawks and local Legion members. Thank you to the Legion members for taking the time to show your support for local sports and for leading the Remembrance ceremony.
On Sunday the Novice Meteors hosted the Saugeen Shores Storm at the Mitchell arena. It didn’t take long to realize that these were two evenly matched teams and that the game was going to be a nail-biter. After the first two periods ended scoreless, the third period was played like a sudden-death match fighting for just one winning goal. The Meteor defencemen held their ground and pounded the puck back into scoring territory while the forwards set up several offensive plays. With several awesome scoring chances and close calls for the Meteors, the winning goal came in the final 25 seconds of the game but unfortunately it was in favour of the Saugeen Shores Storm. The game could have gone either way but that’s just how hockey goes. Fortunately, the Meteors will have another chance to subdue the Storm next Sunday in Southampton. Let’s hope those close calls will turn in favour of the Meteors equating in game-winning goals.
