Novice Girls Weekend Wrap-up
Over the past weekend the Perth County Chrysler Dodge Caravan Kids Novice C girls teams played three home games.  Friday night they hosted the South Huron Sabres B teams here in Mitchell for an exhibition game.  Saturday and Sunday saw there undefeated regular season record come to an end as they lost close games to Ilderton and Chatham.

The weekend got started on Friday night as the girls got the prime time ice slot to play host to the South Huron Sabres Novice B team.  The crowd would not be disappointed as the teams went back and forth entertaining the fans to a 1-1 tie.  South Huron jumped on the board early in the first as they were able to slide one past goalie Grace Kipfer.  The Meteors quickly applied the pressure back on the visitors and were rewarded at the 2:55 mark of the second period.  Jessie Horan carried the puck over the blue line and got a low hard shot on net and the rebound squirted loose into the slot.  Out of the scrum in the slot, Jayda Houben was able to lift one over a sprawled out goalie and bounce one of the post and in.  The rest of the second and third would be a tightly contested battle.  In the dying seconds of the third, Zoey Michel was sprung loose down the left wing boards and made a perfect pass to Ashley McLeod as she entered the Sabres zone.  McLeod got off a hard wrist shot that the Sabre goalie made a "Marty Brodeur" type pad save.  The game would end in a 1-1 tie.

The second game of the weekend would be against the Ilderton Jets, who came into Monkton looking to avenge some close loses suffered recently at the hands of the Meteors.  Mitchell would score first early in the second as McLeod would score an unassisted goal.  The Jets would turn on their after burners after that and score two goals to take a 2-1 lead halfway through the third.  In the final minute Mitchell would pull their goalie and the Jets would score an empty netter to take the game 3-1.

Game three would also be in the friendly confines of the Elma-Logan arena, this time against a hungry Chatham Outlaws squad.  The Outlaws would show no signs of fatigue from the two hour plus car ride and score the first two goals of the game.  The Meteors would not go quietly and if not for a strong performance by the Outlaws goalie the final score could have been different.  Again, in the last minute, the Meteors pulled their goalie with the same results as the day prior.  Chatham would add the empty netter and take the game 3-0.

This upcoming weekend has the girls on the west coast swing as they play in Lambton and Ilderton respectively.  Good luck girls.
