Road Warriors
Last weekend had the Perth County Chrysler Dodge Caravan Kids take to the road for a three game weekend.  Saturday they would go to the deep south of Huron county to take on the Sabres in Huron Park.  Sunday had the girls up early to travel to Chatham to face the Outlaws and on the way home would make a pit stop in St. Thomas to play the Panthers.  When the girls arrived home on Sunday night they had earned 5 of a possible 6 points, a very successful weekend.

On Saturday the Meteors streaked into Huron Park to play their final game of the OWHA round robin against the South Huron Sabres.  The girls battled hard from the drop of the puck and continued to battle until every whistle was blown.  They would not back down from any intimidation tactics, and in some instances were not afraid to push back.  Grace Kipfer was solid again in the Meteor net and was able to hold the Sabres off the scoreboard and she recorded the shut out.  In the other net, the Sabres goaltender was as strong as she held the Meteor snipers off the board, and the game would end in an exciting 0-0 tie.  Unfortunately, this would not give the Meteors enough points to qualify for the provincial tournament in April.  After being reclassified as a B team late in the season, the girls had to battle the Huron Heat, Stratford Aces and South Huron Sabre B teams, with only one berth to the provincials available.  Mitchell ended with a 1-3-2 record, but were never out of any game.  They battled very hard in all 6 games and were never out scored by more than two.  The girls have represented Mitchell magnificently both on and off the ice.  The coaching staff and parents should be very proud of these fine young girls for the time and effort they put into their run at the provincials.  Good luck to the team that represents this region as they have had to work hard to earn their berth.

Sunday had the girls head south and west for two more of their WOGHL round robin playoff games.  The first stop would be in Chatham to face the Outlaws, one more time!  The Outlaws always give the Meteors all they can handle, and this game would prove no different.  Chatham jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 1:11 remaining in the first.  The Meteors would answer right back as Ashley McLeod would tie things up with 25 seconds remaining in the first.  Zoey Michel and Ava Harmer would get the assists.  The close affair would continue in the second, but Chatham would be the only team to score, and head to the third up by one.  The girls continued to battle hard all the way through the third, and then with 3:24 remaining, McLeod would snipe again, tying the game at 2.  A. Harmer would earn her second assist.  Then 50 seconds later Kara Rolph would score what would be the winning goal.  The girls would escape Chatham with a 3-2 victory.
They would then hop back on the 401 and head toward St. Thomas for an afternoon matinee.
After a stop for lunch, the Meteors were refueled and back on the ice for game three of the weekend.  The girls got off to a somewhat sluggish start and the score would be tied at 1, after one.  The second would bear witness to a pent up offensive explosion in which the Meteors would score 5.  They would tack on one in the third and leave St. Thomas with a 7-2 victory.  McLeod would light the lamp 4 times, and single goals would be scored by Rolph, Camryn Medhurst and Jessie Horan.  Only one assist was given out on the score sheet, and that went to Danielle Harmer.  Rylee Kipfer, Alissa Insley, Heather Ogilvie and Horan were fantastic on defence again in all three games.

This upcoming weekend will have the girls face the Ilderton Jets on the road Friday and finish off their league round robin Saturday here in Mitchell vs the St. Thomas Panthers.  Good luck girls.
