Novice C Girls Return From Pink on the Rink Wearing Silver
Over the past weekend the Perth County Chrysler Dodge Caravan Kids Novice C girls  competed in the Pink on the Rink tournament in South Huron.  The girls found out what the Canadian Junior Mens team felt like last Thursday, as the girls came home with the Silver Medal.   The Meteors played a very strong Huron Heat B team in the final and fell 4-1.  In total the girls had 4 games throughout the weekend.

The journey started early Friday morning as the girls played the host South Huron Sabres.  In what turned out to be a display of great team defense by both teams, no one was able to solve either goalie and the teams skated to a 0-0 tie.  Grace Kipfer earned the shut out in net.
The second game would be played later on Friday afternoon as the Meteors would play against league rival, the Ilderton Jets.  Again, G. Kipfer would hold the Jets scoreless earning another shut out.  Kara Rolph scored the first goal of the game, and it would prove to be the winner.  Danielle Harmer would earn an assist.  Then early in the third Jayda Houben would net one of her own, with Ashley McLeod picking up an assist.  Rylee Kipfer, Jessie Horan, Heather Ogilvie and Alissa Insley would play yet another steady game on the blue line.
After all the other round robin games were played, the teams would be seeded for the playoff round.  Mitchell would end up as the first seed and await the winner of the Sabres and Jets.  Ilderton was able to escape with the win, as the would beat the Sabres in a shoot out.  This would set the table for a rematch in the semis, Mitchell vs Ilderton, again.
With the coaching staffs of both teams well acquainted with the other, the chess match would began, with the victor earning birth to the finals.  After a scoreless first, Kara Rolph would again open the scoring as she tallied 36 seconds into the second.  Shortly after, D. Harmer would score with an assist to cousin Ava.  Mitchell would then put on lock down defence for the rest of the period and head into the third leading by 2.  Halfway through the third, the Meteors would give up their first goal of the tourney and the nail biting would begin.  The Meteors held off the Jets late surge and won 2-1 earning a birth in the finals against the aforementioned Huron Heat B, who had defeated the Kincardine Kinucks in the other semi final.
The stage was set for the final on Sunday morning, and after a wintery drive to Exeter, the puck was dropped.  The Meteors were not ready for the early onslaught that the Heat applied and found themselves down 18 seconds into the game.  The Heat would add another late in the first, and head to period two, up by two.  Jayda Houben stayed hot in the tourney, as she would half the lead at the 7:18 mark of the second.  That would be as close as the Meteors could get.  The Heat would tack on two more goals and claim the gold medal 4-1.
Great job girls, you all looked great with your flashy new pink skate laces!  The Meteors will now enjoy their mandatory 4 day lay off, and head back to the rink this Friday as they begin a three home game weekend.  South Huron, Ilderton and Chatham will visit the metropolis of West Perth this weekend.  Congrats girls on a great showing this past weekend.
