A Silver Season
The Synders Graphics Peewee girls finished off their season winning the silver medal in Division 2 of the WOGHL Peewee Girls C.

The final series was set with the two top teams in Division 2 facing off for the Championship title.  Our competitors for this final was the Lucan Irish.  First game would be on our stomping ground this past Thursday night.
With the game ready to start we lined up and to control right from the faceoff as the majority of the opening period was played in their end.  Nice start to the game! With the period drawing near the mid way mark, Taya Cornish would take a shot from the point from the pass of Brooklyn Gethke to get us on the board.  Whew, let's keep this going for the remainder of the game.  The second period score would remain the same with us still holding the slim lead of one but the Irish were really pressing as they started to control the game.
Third period was just not ours, we had lost our momentum and also our speed.  Lucan was able to get on the board to even the score with them screening our goalie. Shoot, come on girls, let's pick up the pace.  With the teams ready to go again, it was noticeable that things had changed on the ice and Lucan just wanted the win more and within a few minutes of their first goal, they would add to the lead.  Our girls continued to press but just couldn't seem to get much going to get the equalizer before the end of the game.  We would surrender the first game 2-1 of our best of three series to Lucan to make game 2 a do or die situation for us.
Last night (Saturday) we all made the tour to Lucan for our 8pm game.  The Meteors gals were keen and ready to play as they all knew we needed the win to take this series all the way to play the final game back in our barn.  As the ice surface was ready to be marked up and the two teams stepped out to the roar of the crowds, we were crossing our fingers for a great game!  As the coaches gave their final words of advice before the start and a Go Meteors cheer from our girls, the stage was set!   Face off, puck dropped and away we go. With each team wanting to get on the board first and the stakes high, our high flying Meteors would open the scoring first with Jaimie Badley working her magic around the Lucan goalie from the help of Emily Haefling.  Great job girls!  Let's keep going.  With the period coming to an end, Lucan was rewarded with a very questionable goal - I'm just not sure how you can give a goal to a team that has players interfering with your goalie and also laying on her but if that's what the refs decided, I guess we just have to go with it.  With that, it was a tied game to end the first period.  Nothing would change during the second period as the score would remain tied but the aggressiveness of Lucan picked up.  The final period was upon us and all we needed was just one but our gals despite numerous chances just couldn't seem to get it around their goalie as she was able to cover a lot of net.  During this final period Lucan would be able to score a couple more to make the score 3-1.  With the game almost at the end and a determined group from Mitchell we pulled our goalie Makayla Beuerman to add the extra attacker but just couldn't get any closer and the series would be done.
Good work out there girls, you have had a great season and should be very proud of your silver medal.
All your family and fans have enjoyed watching and cheering you gals on from start to finish and have seen you all grow as Meteors hockey players.
A huge thank you to the coaching staff - Jamie Gethke, Jamie Gibbings, Pete Price, Dawn Pletch and JoAnne Horan, their season would not have been possible without your support and dedication.
Enjoy your break off and see you all back at the rink in September!
