The Boys Are Hot!
The Meteors played two games this weekend, scoring 19 goals and dominating each opponent in an impressive show of team work, speed and skill.

The boys played Saturday night in Southampton against the Saugeen Shores Storm.  Mitchell began scoring within the first minute of the game when Solomon Koert notched an unassisted goal.  The Storm tied up the score with a nice shot that took AP goalie Austin Weir by surprise.  The Meteors fought back and Wade Monden put the boys in the lead again while Koert and Josh Eidt earned the assists.  In the final minute of the game Coulter Rolph made no mistake notching his first of the night on a great pass from Kyle Eisler. The boys were heading in to the second period leading 3-1.
The second period was end to end with some great passing plays by the Meteors and some great saves by the Storm's goalie.  Saugeen Shores managed to sneak one by Weir to edge them closer at 3-2.  With just two minutes left in the period, Koert scored his second of the night after a nice passing play by line mate, Eidt and defenceman Curtis Chaffe.  The boys headed into the final period up 4-2.
The third period was full of Mitchell Power Plays and the boys took full advantage.  Rolph sniped his second of the night while Eisler earned the assist on a beautiful feed to a wide open Rolph to increase the lead 5-2.  Just 10 seconds later, Eidt rifled a shot over the net minders shoulder while Monden and Koert earned asissts.  The score looked like it would sit at 6-2 but with just 2 seconds left in the game, Koert rushed down the ice, deking around Saugeen Shores players.  Koert fed Monden a perfect pass and Monden shot top shelf just as the buzzer rang out to end the game and hand the Meteors the 7-2 win.

Game # 2 was the next night in a home game against the Walkerton Capitals.  From the minute the game started, the boys were on fire with great skating and accurate passes.  The scoring began early in the first on a goal by Rolph while Eisler and Evan MacArthur (04) picked up the assists.  In the closing seconds of the period, MacAurthur (04) notched a beautiful goal while MacAurthur (03) and Chaffe earned the assists.  The Meteors ended the period up 2-0 Mitchell blew the doors wide open in the second period which began on a nice passing play by Brett Poirier and Drew Scherbarth that ended with Joey Adam sinking his first of the night.  Adam would score #2 just a few minutes later, again with some great passing plays by line mates Poirier and Scherbarth.  The Meteors were up 4-0.  They didn't let up the pressure and continued to fight hard in the corners, back checking and making great heads up passes.  Just two minutes more of hard work paid off when Eidt rifled a shot beating the Capitals goalie and giving Rolph and Kurtis DeJong the assists on goal # 5.  The next goal was less than a minute later when Monden tapped in a rebound while Koert and Matthew Crawford earned the assists.  Adam picked up a rebound of his own to notch his first hat trick of the season.  Poirier and Chaffe earned the assists. The boys had another goal in them when Eidt notched his second of the night after getting a beautiful feed from Koert.  Mitchell was in the lead 8-0.  With just a few minutes left in the period, the boys got a little sloppy in their own end and a bad pass lead to a quick turn over right in front of Mitchell's goalie Greg Reidy.  Walkerton picked up their only goal of the night and the boys ended the second period in the lead 8-1.
The final period of the game opened with Eisler charting his first of the game on a great passing play from MacAurthur (04) and DeJong.  The period continued with some amazing plays by the Meteors and some good hard skating and back checking.  Goalie Reidy made some key saves when he needed to and kept control of the play at all times.  With just four minutes left in the game, Adam sniped his fourth goal of the game while line mates Scherbarth and Poirier earned the assists. The final 2 goals came from Rolph and Koert while Eilser and MacAurthur (04) notched more assists.  The Meteors ended an incredible game winning 12-1.  It was a solid weekend of hockey and the boys displayed the team effort that they have developed through the first half of this season.  Great job boys!!
