Meteors Burn Up The Ice at Silverstick!!
The Mitchell Meteors Peewee AE team was in St. Clements this weekend to compete in the Silverstick Regional tournament.  The boys ended the tournament the way they began, playing with heart and determination winning all 6 games to take the championship title.

The boys began the tournament winning game # 1 against the Listowel Cyclones 2-1 Thursday night.

Friday they were back on the ice to face the Lincoln Blades who they lost against 1-0 twice during the Mitchell Tournament.  The boys didn't let that scare them as they stepped on the ice as if it was their first match-up. Lincoln got on the score board first but the Meteors kept pushing, working hard in the corners and back checking.  They were rewarded in the opening of the second period with a tying goal by Josh Eidt.  With just under a minute left in the period, Evan MacArthur ('04) put Mitchell up by 1 while Kurtis Dejong and Coulter Rolph earned the assists. The boys were heading into the third period winning 2-1.  The Meteors came out flying for the final 10 minutes of the game.  Two quick goals, just 30 seconds apart, sealed the win mid way through the third period. Solomon Koert and Eidt both had incredible shots to notch the goals while Eidt also earned an assist.
Game # 3 was against the Simcoe Warriors that evening.  The boys started a little slow but quickly picked up the pace to dominate the game.  Joey Adam picked up a rebound on a nice shot from Drew Scherbarth to get the Meteors on the score board mid way through the second period.  Just a few minutes later, Koert notched Mitchell's second and final goal of the game.  The boys were able to hold on to the 2-0 lead with the help of amazing Goaltending by Greg Reidy who was stellar between the pipe for Mitchell.
The Meteors played game #4 Saturday Afternoon against the Tillsonburg Tornadoes.  Mitchell opened the scoring with a goal by Kyle Eisler and assist by MacArthur ('04) and Coulter Rolph.  The Tornadoes answered back with a goal of their own near the end of the second period to tie up the game.  The Meteors silenced the Tillsonburg crowd just minutes later when Eisler recorded his second goal of the game to once again put the boys in the lead.  MacArthur ('03) earned the assist.  The boys had many great plays and Reidy continued to stay strong in net for the third period.   With three minutes left in the game, Adam was fed a beautiful pass in front of the net, notching a 'bar-down' goal and bringing the Meteors to the 3-1 win.  Great passing play by Scherbarth and Kyle Dejong!
The Meteors were heading into the semi finals for a do or die match against the Woodstock Jr Navy Vets later that evening. From start to finish, Mitchell was all over the Vets and never let them get the upper hand the entire game. The first period began with Wade Monden earning a quick, unassisted goal to put Mitchell up 1-0.  Just minutes later, Eisler increased the lead 2-0 on another unassisted goal.  Scherbarth was the only one to score in the second.  Poirier earned the assist.  Mitchell was heading into the third winning 3-0.  A couple quick goals by Poirier and Scherbarth sealed the win at 5-0 and sent the boys to the finals.  Adam and Scherbarth earned the assists.  The Meteors did a great job killing time to end this rough match and hold on to another great shut-out for Reidy.  Great job boys!
The final game was played Sunday afternoon and was against the Newmarket Redmen.  Newmarket had a very successful tournament as well so Mitchell knew they had to play a well organized game if they were going to win the tournament. Mitchell hit the ice with determination and heart and took control of the Redmen from the first puck drop to the last.  Solomon Koert earned a hat trick in the first seven minutes of the opening period to put Mitchell up 3-0.  Eidt and Monden earned the assists on his goals. The Meteors kept up a fast paced game with great passing plays, back checking forwards, solid defence and stellar goaltending.  The final Mitchell goal was scored by Coulter Rolph with a riffle shot after a great passing play from MacArthur ('04) and Curtis Chaffe.  Newmarket managed to sneak one by Reidy but it wasn't enough and the boys won the game 4-1 sending gloves and sticks high in the air and fans to their feet.  All 6 wins were achieved with absolute and total team effort.  I've never witnessed a team that deserved to win every game more than these boys did.  We couldn't be more proud of the way you represented Mitchell. Great job everyone!!
