Atom Reps Go Undefeated at Simcoe Tournament
The Your Neighbourhood Credit union atom rep team travelled to Simcoe this weekend to play in the Vic Demeyere tournament.  Mitchell faced off against the host team Simcoe and battled to a 1-1 tie after regulation time with the goal scored by Vincent Voros assisted by Dawson Dietz and Cole Hannon.  Mitchell would then be forced to an overtime shoot out to determine the winner.  Both Dietz and Jarrett Van Bakel scored in the shootout to give Mitchell their first win.  Kody Eisler was stellar in net and made an awesome glove save on a penalty shot and stopped 3 of the 4 OT shooters.

Mitchell’s next game was against the Tavistock royals.  Mitchell started the scoring in the first with a goal scored by Jack Small with assists to Voros and Dietz.  Mitchell would go on to get 2 unassisted goals by Andrew Van Bakel and Voros and a fourth goal by Dietz with the helper going to Hannon.  Tavistock got one back late in the third but couldn’t catch up to Mitchell’s lead and meteors ended up winning 4-1.

Next up for Mitchell was Wallaceburg.  After a scoreless first period, mitchell got the first goal of the game by Dietz from Voros but Wallaceburg quickly replied to tie it up.  Mitchell would score again in the second with a goal by Dietz from Hannon.  The third period stayed a close contest back and forth game but then Mitchell exploded and scored four goals, two by Jarrett Van Bakel, unassisted, Josh French from Rhett Terpstra and final goal by Voros from Brock Boville making it a 6-3 victory.

The Last game of the day was vs. Caledonia.  Mitchell would again start the scoring in the first with a goal by Brock Boville followed by 2 goals by Dietz to end the first period Mitchell up 3-2.  The boys battled end to end with phenomenal goal tending by Eisler.  Voros would pot a goal near the end of the second to cushion Mitchell’s lead to 4-2.  Caledonia didn’t give up and scored 2 more in the third but Mitchell would respond with 2 goals of their own by Dietz and Voros to give Mitchell the win with a score of 6–4.  Assists went to Jack small and Xavier Lorentz.

Mitchell received a bye to the finals for going undefeated in the tournament and the match was set to play Wallaceburg again in the finals.  Mitchell came ready to play and quickly jumped out front with a 3-0 lead after the first period of play.   Lorentz started the scoring after a nice pass from Daniel Ogilvie.  Dietz would follow with two goals one unassisted and the other with the helper going to Josh French.  Voros then added two more goals, one in the second and another in the third to take the game out of reach for Wallaceburg and winning the championship game 5-1.  Kody Eisler was awarded the Goalie of the Tournament award for the Atom Division.
