Atom Reps Advance to Second Round of OMHA Playoffs
The Your Neighbourhood Credit Union Atom Rep Team has advanced to the second round of OMHA playoffs after putting out Goderich 3 games straight. Mitchell opened the series vs. Goderich last Wednesday night in Mitchell with a 5-2 win. Vincent Voros was on a scoring spree and scored 4 goals for the locals with Josh French adding the other Mitchell goal.
Mitchell then travelled to Goderich the next night and played a tight back and forth game. Mitchell had a 2-1 lead after the first period with two goals by Dawson Dietz assisted by Voros and Jamie Feltz. Mitchell’s Voros would notch a goal early in the second period to give Mitchell a two goal lead but Goderich responded by adding 3 goals of their own in the second period to give them the lead 4-3. Dietz would then score an unassisted goal with 50 seconds left in the third period to force the game into overtime. Mitchell came out strong in overtime and saw French score the OT winning goal with assist going to Daniel Ogilvie.
The next game in the series was back in Goderich on Saturday. The first period would see the game at a 1-1 tie with French scoring Mitchell’s goal with assists to Ogilvie and Cole Hannon. The second period was tight with no goals scored for or against. Goderich would score the go ahead goal at the start of the third period but Dietz replied ten seconds later with assists to Feltz and Hannon to tie it up again. Jarrett Van Bakel would score the next goal of the game assisted by Dietz and then French would score a goal to give Mitchell a 4-2 lead. Goderich would refuse to give up and battled back with a goal midway through the third. With the score only 4-3, Mitchell got into some penalty trouble but managed to kill off a 5 on 3 for 1:42 seconds. Voros would seal the deal for Mitchell with the final goal of the game assisted by Feltz and Jack Small to make it a victory of 5-3 and a series sweep of the Goderich Sailors.
